About the Opportunity

DBM Law has an opportunity for a full-time Associate Lawyer (Family & Litigation) in Coquitlam, BC. This is an in-office role.

Reporting to the firm's litigation leadership team, this role is responsible for managing family law and litigation matters, advising clients, representing clients in court and alternative dispute resolution proceedings, and contributing to the continued growth of the firm's litigation practice.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting legal documents, pleadings, briefs, and correspondence
  • Conducting legal research and developing case strategies
  • Advising clients on family law, litigation, and dispute resolution matters
  • Managing litigation files from intake through resolution
  • Coordinating and overseeing discovery processes and related documentation
  • Representing clients in court proceedings, mediations, arbitrations, and negotiations
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships through responsive communication and exceptional client care
  • Collaborating with lawyers, legal assistants, and support staff to ensure efficient file management
  • Mentoring and supporting junior litigation associates in their professional development
  • Contributing to the growth of the family law practice and broader litigation group
  • Participating in business development, networking, and community engagement activities
  • Developing and maintaining a sustainable book of business

More About You

To qualify, you will need to be a member of the Law Society of British Columbia (or qualify for membership without the need for articles) and possess strong advocacy and negotiation skills. A minimum of 7 years of experience practising law, with experience in family law, litigation and an established book of business, will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience managing complex family law, civil litigation, commercial litigation, or estate litigation matters
  • Strong practice management and file management capabilities
  • Experience mentoring and supporting junior lawyers or associates
  • Business development, networking, and community engagement experience
  • Familiarity with legal research and practice management software
